TOEFL Speaking Topic: Some people prefer to travel alone; other people prefer to join a tour group.

Q- Some people prefer to travel alone; other people prefer to join a tour group, which do you prefer and why? Include details and examples to support your explanation.

Ans: In my opinion, I prefer to travel alone. Travelling alone allows me to plan my own journey, visit the places that pique my interest, and spend as much time as I want at each location. This freedom allows me to fully immerse myself in experiencing the scenery around me without considering the preferences or schedules of others. For example, during my last solo trip to Rome, I spent an entire day exploring the historical Colosseum. I got the opportunity to delve deeper into the monument’s rich history, appreciate its architectural grandeur, and strike up conversations with fellow history enthusiasts. If I had been part of a tour group, I would have been constrained by a predetermined schedule and rushed through this magnificent site in just a couple of hours.

Another reason is that solo travel facilitates cultural immersion. Travelling alone can provide ample opportunities to interact with locals, sample authentic cuisine, and even pick up their dialect. These interactions would enrich my travel experience and provide me with deeper insight into the place I am visiting. In conclusion, while group tours may offer a sense of security and logistical convenience, I believe that solo travel provides a more enriching, flexible, and personalised experience. The freedom to explore at my own pace and the opportunity to immerse myself in local cultures are why I prefer to travel alone. I would encourage everyone to try solo travel at least once to experience the unique benefits it offers.
