TOEFL Daily Writing Topic: Which of the following animals would win in a fierce fight?

a) A 1000 kg Salt Water Crocodile

b) A 1,500 kg African hippopotamus

c) A 227 kg Siberian Tiger

Use specific reasons and examples to support your opinion. Do not use memorized examples.

Brainstorming Ideas:

1. In the fight between crocodiles, African hippopotamus and Siberian tiger, the hippopotamus will win the fight as he is known as an aggressive anima.

2. Apart from this, they have bulletproof skin, powerful jaws, and can be excellent runners and swimmers which gives them an advantage over others.

3. Saltwater crocodile relies on assaulting their prey and directly dragging them in water, which in the case of hippopotamus is not a big deal.

4. The Siberian tiger, known for their strength and agility, uses the element of surprise by stalking and pouncing on their prey. He will be at a disadvantage in front of animals who are larger in size and greater in strength.

5. However, such a scenario is highly impossible as all of these animals live in different ecosystems and will usually avoid such confrontations.

Ans: If a fierce fight were to occur between a 1000 kg Saltwater Crocodile, a 1,500 kg African hippopotamus, and a 227 kg Siberian Tiger, the outcome would be highly unpredictable, as each of them possesses unique strengths and survival strategies. However, based on their characteristics and behaviours, I believe that the African Hippopotamus would have the upper hand.

The African hippopotamus, despite its seemingly docile appearance, is known to be one of the most aggressive creatures in the world. With a massive size that can reach up to 1,500 kg, it possesses a significant advantage over other creatures. Its skin is bulletproof, serving as natural armor against attacks. The hippopotamus’s large and powerful jaws can even crush a large crocodile, and its teeth can reach lengths of up to 51 cm. Regardless of its size, it can run at speeds of 30 km/h on land. Additionally, the hippopotamus is an excellent swimmer, capable of holding its breath underwater for up to five minutes. These attributes make it a formidable opponent in both land and water.

The saltwater crocodile, on the other hand, primarily relies on assaulting its prey. In a confrontation, it may not fare as well. With a powerful bite, its attack strategy involves dragging its prey directly into the water. However, the hippopotamus, being an excellent swimmer, would not be disadvantaged in this situation. The Siberian tiger, known for its strength and agility, is considerably smaller than both the hippopotamus and crocodile. Tigers typically rely on stalking and then pouncing directly on their prey, using the element of surprise. However, in a scenario of confrontation with larger animals, the tiger would be at a disadvantage.

To conclude, while each animal possesses unique strengths, the African hippopotamus, with its formidable size, aggressiveness, and powerful jaws, is most likely to prevail in a confrontation against the Saltwater Crocodile and the Siberian Tiger. Nevertheless, it is important to note that such a scenario is highly improbable, as these animals inhabit different ecosystems and typically avoid confrontations unless necessary.
