Apart from this development, Eric Garcetti also mentioned that the President has asked him to reduce the time taken to issue visas not only to students but also to first-time visitors.
On the issue of backlog for Indian students, the US Ambassador said that efforts are being made to reduce the waiting time. The US Embassy will be able to process them and get an even higher number than last year.
He added that the US President is very focused on this issue. Garcetti said that the waiting time has been reduced by 60 per cent in the last three months and will continue to decrease.
On this issue, he said, “Indian students are so great for America. They are great for our universities, they are great for our commerce. Look at the number of Indian-born CEOs of big companies in America. It’s good for the American economy, it’s good for the Indian economy and it’s just good for civilization too.”
The US ambassador had recently visited India, the Sabarmati Ashram in Gujarat. There he chatted with several reporters about visa issues and India-US relations. Eric Garcetti arrived in India almost 2 years after his appointment as Ambassador to India by President Joe.
