Study in UK: University of Sheffield Professor David Locker Scholarship Applications Open for Overseas Students 

The University of Sheffield Professor David Locker Scholarship is for students from low or middle-income countries. The scholarship benefit is an amount of  £7,500 towards the tuition fees. However, this scholarship is only available to students from a social science or dentistry background to study at Sheffield for a Master’s in Dental Public Health (MDPH). Talented international students who want to continue David’s work and contribute to dental public health development in their home countries can apply. Interested students must apply before the deadline- 1 pm (GMT) on 13 May 2024. The scholarship outcome announcement will take place before the end of May.

Professor David Locker Scholarship Eligibility

The eligibility requirements for the Professor David Locker Scholarship are as follows:

  • Must have received an offer letter to study MDPH Public Health commencing in Septemeber at the University
  • Moreover, the offer letter must have been unconditional. The course must  start before 2 September 2024
  • The student must also not be funded by a research council, government, charity, private organisation or any other organisation
  • Those who have previously studied outside their home county are not eligible
  • Additionally, the applicant must be an international fee-paying student from a low or middle-income country. Note: India is classified as a low-middle-income country. Hence, Indian students are eligible for this scholarship.

Professor David Locker Scholarship Selection Process

The Professor David Locker Scholarship is competitive. Hence, not all applications will be successful. A panel of senior members of staff will decide the scholarship beneficiaries based on the following criteria: 

  • The academic record of the student 
  • The rationale for applying for the postgraduate course at the University
  • Relevant work experience including voluntary and community work experience.
  • How the learning will benefit the student and others in the home county 
  • Additionally, the challenges to academic and professional progress and how these barriers were overcome is also taken into account
