As per QS Rankings survey, UK is known as the safest place for any international student. Most students prefer to study in this country.

London has retained its top spot for being the world’s best student city for the fifth consecutive time. While, Tokyo ranks second place, followed by Seoul as the third country. Melbourne has ranked as the fourth country and Munich has slipped to the fifth. 

These ranks come out by the Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) Rankings for Best Student Cities 2024 released on July 19. 

London, by coming in the number one spot once again, has strengthened the city as well as the UK’s position as a global study destination.

Methodology Behind Universities Coming in The QS Best Student Cities

  • QS World University Rankings: In this category, the collective performance of a city’s universities’ rating is on to the QS World University Rankings. 
  • Affordability: The affordability indicator measures the tuition fees to the cost of living from how cost-effective a city is most likely to be favoured by students and their families. 
  • Desirability: This indicates the amount of desirability a destination is as a whole, this ranges from the safety of a place to the pollution levels. 
  • Students: This factor includes the number of diverse students who come from various international countries. 
  • Student Opinions: Every year, QS International Student Survey asks students questions about their experience studying abroad. 

Why Do Students Prefer UK Universities?

As the report suggests, students are preferring to pursue their education in UK universities rather than any other country. Here are some of the reasons:

  • UK universities get over 110,00 responses from students from over 194 countries. More than 17,000 participants wanted to study at London universities. 
  • More than 40 per cent of students agreed with the fact that the UK is a safe country for international students. 
  • When the students were asked about the reason behind their choosing a foreign university, they stated ‘safe and welcoming space’, ‘high-quality teaching’, ‘good reputation for studying’, ‘good lifestyle’, cost of living’.
