François-Philippe Champagne, Canada’s Minister of Innovation, Science and Industry has made an announcement. The statement reads the first STEM round for category-based selection under the Express Entry route will open in the week of July 5.

The draw will focus on candidates on candidates who have STEM expertise (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics streams). 

These will include people who are data scientists, software developers, programmers, mathematicians, statisticians, actuaries and electrical engineers. 

How Will This Help?

It will help Canada’s science and technology sector. This will happen by bringing in the skilled talent which businesses need to drive innovation and growth potential. This is stated by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), which is the country’s immigration agency.

Canada is the top country where most Indians go to study. Apart from this, India is the top source country for immigrants under the Express Entry Route. 

It is seen in 2020, Indians bagged 50,841 invites in order to apply for PR in Canada. This is around 50 per cent of the total invites which have been issue by the immigration agency. 

Furthermore, this announcement advances the Canadian government’s efforts to hold on and recruit top candidates to address the STEM workforce.
