Here are the major changes intended to be implemented after April 2nd. Have a look.

  • The Duolingo English Test has updated its fill-in-the-blank questions to assess both the depth of your vocabulary and your ability to use words and phrases in context.  This section will now include 6-9 sentences with a missing word, each with a 20-second time limit to fill the blank. Your performance in this section significantly impacts your overall score, especially the Literacy and Comprehension subscores. To achieve your best score, be sure to carefully read the entire sentence before choosing your answer and leverage context clues to identify the most fitting word.
  • Starting April 2, 2024, the Duolingo English Test will introduce a new question format: interactive writing. In this format, you’ll be presented with a prompt and asked to develop your ideas in writing. You’ll have a total of 8 minutes and 30 seconds to complete the question.
  • The Duolingo English Test is updating its read and select questions to improve efficiency and assess vocabulary depth more accurately.  Here’s what’s changing: Previously, you saw multiple answer choices on a single screen to identify real words. After the update, real words will be presented one at a time on separate screens, with only 5 seconds to answer for each word. You can expect to see 15-18 words in this section.
