Describe a time when you felt proud of a family member.

Q- Describe a time when you felt proud of a family member.

Ans: I still get shudders thinking about the time my mother was named best writer of the year in front of an international audience. It was the moment I was over the moon given the amount of pride I felt for my mother.  It made me happy and giddy to hear my mother’s name shouted out for the award after witnessing her work on her book day in and day out relentlessly without breaks.

The amount of sacrifice my mother had to make in order to finish her book is admirable. I’ve seen her hunger and obsession to reach her goals and pursue what she actually loves, which is writing. I honestly assumed she wouldn’t be able to finish the book, but she proved me wrong and demonstrated why diligence, patience, and dedication can always triumph over raw talent. These are some of her ideals that make me proud to be her son and inspire me to one day be like her.

I recall my mother facing obstacles in the form of taunts from her in-laws while pursuing a profession in literature and writing. Being from a conservative household, she not only had to escape the shackles of discrimination and notions about women being in the professional realm, let alone in a field like writing, but it makes me very proud to think of how far my mother has come as a writer and, ultimately, as a warrior. Her journey, in my opinion, is extremely similar to that of other women in India who dare to dream by breaking down barriers of societal constructs. She is a winner in my opinion since she not only made a reputation for herself but also paved the road for many other middle-class Indian women who want to make their dreams come true.

In essence, I was overcome with pride when my mother earned the prize for best writer in front of an international audience. Her journey to earning the award continues to inspire me to dream big and work hard to make them a reality.
