Duolingo Daily Writing Topic- Some students prefer to study alone, while others prefer group study.

Q. Some students prefer to study alone, while others prefer group study. Discuss the advantages and disadvantages of both study methods. Which do you think is more effective and why?

Ans. Group study and individual study are two common methods that students use to prepare for exams. Both of them have their advantages and disadvantages.

Studying alone allows for a quiet environment free from distractions, enabling students to focus solely on the material. It provides flexibility in terms of both study schedule and pace. For instance, a student preparing for a math exam will spend more time on difficult topics and breeze through topics that he or she is confident about. However, when people are studying alone it can lead to procrastination and lack of motivation. It can also be very challenging when a student encounters difficult topics and there is no one to explain.

On the other hand, group study encourages active learning with the help of discussions and debates. It provides an opportunity to learn from their peers and gain perspective about the same topic. For example, during a group study session for a history exam, one student’s understanding of a historical event will shed new light on the topics. However, group study can also be less productive if the group is not focused or if members have different academic abilities or preparation levels.

While I see the merits of both methods, my preference leans more towards group study.  The interaction and collaboration involved in group study make the learning process more engaging and enjoyable. For example, I was part of a study group in college, where we used to divide topics among ourselves and taught each other. This not only made our study sessions more efficient but also deepened our understanding of the topics.

In conclusion, while both methods have their pros and cons, I am more inclined towards group study as it makes studying more enjoyable and engaging.
