Does GMAT Exam Have Negative Marking?

The GMAT (Graduate Management Admission Test) examination consists of subjective and objective questions. It is a computer examination that consists of 80 questions in general. The duration of the examination is 3 hours and 7 minutes. The GMAT exam analyzes a student’s analytical skills, integrated reasoning, verbal reasoning, and quantitative reasoning. The examination is taken for admission to graduate management programs. It is conducted by the  Graduate Management Admission Council (GMAC). GMAT Examination Pattern 

The GMAT test is a computer-adaptive examination. That is, the previous section of the examination will determine the level of difficulty for the examination. The GMAT examination has mainly 4 sections – Verbal reasoning, analytical writing, qualitative reasoning, and integrated reasoning. Moreover, the examination is conducted for a duration of 3 hours and 30 minutes with 8-minute optional breaks. The examination pattern of GMAT is given below:

Does GMAT Have a Negative Marking?

In the GMAT examination, each section is scored separately. However, the total GMAT score a student gets is based on the total of the verbal and Quantitative sections. Does GMAT have a Negative Marking? The answer is no. The examination body does not penalize candidates with negative markings for incorrect answers. However, it is extremely important for a student to answer all questions within the given time frame.

AWA score Calculation

The Analytical Writing Assessment or the AWA score is calculated on the basis of 2 independent grounds.  First, on the basis of the flow of writing and sentence structure. Secondly, on the basis of the flow of ideas, argument analysis, and stated examples.

Integrated Reasoning Score Calculation

No. Integrated reasoning is not a computer-adaptive section. Moreover, it does not comply with the GMAT exam format. That is, the scores of Integrated reasoning will not affect the scores of quantitative reasoning, Analytical Writing Assessment, and verbal reasoning.

Quantitative Reasoning Score Calculation

The GMAT score for quantitative reasoning is based on the number of questions in 1 attempt, the number of questions answered correctly, and other parameters around the question.

Verbal Reasoning Score Calculation

The verbal reasoning section analyses a person’s command of the English language. Generally, the reading comprehension, sentence correction, and critical reasoning of a candidate are accessed.

Is GMAT tougher than CAT?

GMAT and the CAT examination is considered difficult. However, the GMAT examination is easier than the CAT exam. This is because GMAT exam has a predefined syllabus. However, the CAT exam does not have it.

Is 750 a good GMAT score?

GMAT scores between 700 and 740 are considered as good and a score above 740 is labelled as excellent. However, to get into the top 30 business schools in the US students must secure a score of 711+. Generally, the score ranges between 665 – 733. In Europe, the top business schools require the student to score between 638 and 709.
