- Internship (Tirocinio Formazione)– Those who want to work as an intern for longer than 90 days
- Research D– Those who want to take part in research activities longer than 90 days.

How Can I Apply for an Italy Work Visa?
To apply for an Italy work visa follow the steps below:
- Print out the visa application form, and complete it
- Ensure that you have a passport that is valid for at least 3 months beyond your duration of stay
- Ensure all your documents are either in Italian or English. Documents that are not in these languages must be translated.
- Gather the necessary documents and schedule a visa appointment at a visa application centre
- On the date of your visa appointment bring the necessary documents.
- Your biometric information will be taken on the same date.
- You have to pay the visa application fees for the particular work visa.
- Additionally, you will have to attend a visa application interview and clear the same
- After the interview process is complete your application will be processed
- At this stage, you can check the status of your visa application. You will receive the status either by email or SMS updates. You can also check the visa status online.
- Once a decision is made, you will be informed of the same.
- Thereafter, you can collect your passport and other documents from the visa application centre.

To apply for a work visa submit several documents along with the Italy work visa application form. These documents are as follows. Note- These are just general documents irrespective of the visa type. You need additional documents depending on the work visa you are applying for.
- Application form– Completed D visa application form
- Photos– Passport size on a white background
- Passport– Issued within the last 10 years, and is valid for at least 3 months beyond your stay. Your passport must also contain 2 blank pages
- The employment contract– Received from your employer
- Personal cover letter– explaining the purpose of your stay
- Proof of accommodation– Arrangement of accommodation in Italy
- Proof of finances– You must have a minimum bank balance to travel to Italy
- Proof of Health Insurance– A health insurance of EUR 30,000 that is valid in all the Schenegen states for 3 months.
- Additional documents- Any other additional documents required by the visa officer.

Is Italy work visa open?
Yes. The Italy work visa applications are currently open. Do note– The Italian embassy’s work visa works under the “Decreto Flussi” (Flow Decree). This means that there is an annual quota of work permits issued. For the year 2024, the quota is set at 151,000. This includes the seasonal, non-seasonal and self-employed work applications.

Steps to Take After You Apply for the Italy Work Visa
After you have submitted the Italy work visa application form, and received your visa you can travel to Italy. However, you must know the following:
- You have 8 days left to apply for an Italian residence permit
- You can get your residence permit from a local post office
- You will have to present your work permit, work visa, and other documents to get the residence permit
- Thereafter, the Foreign Department (Ufficio Stranieri) will issue you the residence permit.
- This will allow you to reside in Italy for the duration of your visa validity period.
