What is JoSAA Counseling?

The full form of JoSAA counselling is Joint Seat Allocation Authority Counselling. It’s used in India to allocate seats in various engineering colleges, including IITs, NITs, IIITs, and other government-funded technical institutes.

JoSAA (Joint Seat Allocation Authority) is set up by the Ministry of Human Resources Development (MHRD). Most students who have cleared JEE Mains and JEE Advanced appear for JoSAA counselling for admission to the best engineering colleges nationwide.

Step By Step Procedure of JoSAA counselling

The JoSAA counselling consists of major 5 steps. These are the steps that a candidate has to go through for JoSAAcounsellingg:

1st Step: Registration

2nd Step: Choice Filling and Locking of Colleges

3rd Step: Seat Allocation

4th Step: Document Verification

5th Step: Acceptance and Reporting at College

Registration

The first step is to register for JoSAA counselling. You need to first log on to the official website and register through your JEE application number. 

After logging in through your credentials, enter all your personal and educational information. You need to keep in mind that you can change your contact information after registration.

Choice Filling and Locking of Colleges

The next step is to fill in the choices of the colleges and universities according to your preference. It is very important to complete this step.

Note: Make sure to review all the universities and colleges beforehand. Know their placement records, the courses provided and the course fees. 

You need to also lock in your choices. Make sure to review your choices carefully and arrange them. 

Seat Allocation

The next step is seat allocation. The candidates will be allocated based on their ranks achieved, and candidate’s preference and the seats available at the institute. 

Seat allocation now consists of “Freeze”, and ‘Float” or “Slide” options. When a candidate is satisfied with the institution allotted, they can choose Freeze; otherwise, they can choose “Slide” and “Float”. 

Document Verification

After selecting the institution, the next step is document verification. There are certain documents that you need to submit. In this counselling process, document verification is conducted online.

After the verification of documents, students can now proceed towards the acceptance process.

Acceptance and Reporting at College

The final stage of the JoSAA counselling process is the acceptance and reporting to college. There are options like “Float” and “Freeze”. Freeze your desired university and report to the college with the desired documentation.

JoSAA Counselling Eligibility Criteria

As mentioned before, JoSAA Counseling is a step after the candidates clear the JEE Mains and JEE Advanced exams. Here are other eligibility criteria for JoSAA counselling:

How do Register for JoSAA counselling?

Recently, the registration for JoSAA counselling started on 18th June 2024. Now you must be wondering about the steps that you need to take while registering for it:

  1. Visit the official website i.e. josaa.nic.in.
  2. Find “JoSAA Counselling Registration” and click on it. 
  3. Enter your application number and log in with your credentials.
  4. You will be redirected to a new page where you will get all the information related to the candidate. 
  5. Verify your educational and personal details. Check all the available choices for the candidate. Choose the academic programmes based on university availability. 
  6. Make sure to choose your choice efficiently and lock your choice. 
  7. You will now be allocated your choice based on the choices available.

Here are the documents that you need to register for JoSAA Counseling:

  • Class X and XII Mark sheets/Certificates
  • Category certificate (if applicable)
  • PwD certificate (if applicable)
  • Bank details
  • Medical certificate (specified format)
  • OCI/PIO card (if applicable)
  • Passport/Citizenship certificate (if applicable)
  • JEE Main/Advanced admit card

JoSAA Counselling Fees
