How Did The Rajput Leader Prithviraj Chauhan Die?

Prithviraj Chauhan has done so many great works that his name requires no introduction on its own. Prithviraj Chauhan is the third Prithviraj or Rai Pithora Rajput. He ruled present-day Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, and some parts of Punjab. His ruling capital was Ajmer but many folks describe him as the king of the political capital of India Delhi. He was defeated and killed by Mohammad Ghori, as per the most common explanation for how Prithviraj Chauhan died.

Prithviraj Chauhan’s Death

There are many possibilities as to what happened to Prithviraj Chauhan, different evidences state different reasons.

• One such instance says that he was defeated by Mohammad Ghuri on the battlefield in Taraoi led by the latter with the Ghurid army. Although it is said that Prithviraj Chauhan ran away from the battlefield he was later captured at Sirsa and was executed by the forces.

• A Muslim historian Hasan Nizami has mentioned that Prithviraj was caught conspiring against Muhammad, who promoted this Ghurid King to order his army to behead the Rajput ruler. However, the nature of further death is not mentioned by the historian. 

• As per the information available in Prabandhan Chintamani, Muhammad took him to Ajmer in order to let him rule as the vassal but on his way, he found paintings depicting Muslims killed by pigs which made him angry and instigated to beheading Prithviraj Chauhan.
