The full form of SHO is Station House Officer. SHO is in charge or the head of the local police station. He has to supervise the police station’s activities. They are also responsible for maintaining peace, law, and order in the area they are held in charge. SHO has three stars on their police uniform shoulder strap. A number of police constables, head constables, and SI work under him.

SHO ranks above a Sub-Inspector (SI). However, he ranks below a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP). SHO has the authority which enables him to conduct a criminal investigation in the ambit of his area. He can also appear in court on behalf of his police station.

Roles and Duties of SHO

Here are some of the roles and duties that SHO must perform:

  • Account for the efficient operation of the police station

Eligibility to Become an SHO

The minimum qualification you will require in order to become SHO is a Bachelor’s degree. The candidate must have achieved at least 50% marks from any recognized college/university. He can be a graduate in any discipline. Those applicants who have just passed out from school will not be qualified to apply for the SI Positions in the Police Department.
