The full form of MES is Military Engineering Services (MES). The Military Engineering Services (MES) is a dedicated entity within the Indian Army that offers engineering and infrastructure assistance to the armed forces. Its responsibilities encompass the design, construction, and upkeep of military infrastructure, spanning buildings, roads, airfields, water supply systems, and power supply systems.

The Military Engineer Services (MES) is a government agency in India responsible for the development and maintenance of defence infrastructure.

  • Organization: MES is an inter-service organization comprising both military and civilian components. It has officers and staff from military as well as civilian backgrounds.  
  • Size and Legacy: MES is one of the oldest and largest defence infrastructure-development agencies in India. It has a rich history and has contributed significantly to the construction and maintenance of various defence-related projects.  
  • Engineering and Construction: MES specializes in engineering and construction projects for the Indian Armed Forces, including the Army, Navy, Air Force, Ordnance Factory Board, and DRDO. It undertakes a wide range of projects such as hospitals, airfields, buildings, roads, workshops, hangars, sewage treatment plants, and more.

Exam Pattern

The examination pattern for the MES involves a written test, which is followed by a practical or trade examination. The MES written examination has a duration of 120 minutes, allowing candidates a two-hour timeframe to complete the test.  

The exam consists of objective-type questions, requiring candidates to select the correct answer from the provided options. For each subject in the examination, there will be 25 questions, with each question carrying 1 mark.
