The University of Alberta is a public research university, located in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. It was founded in 1908, and the first president was Henry Marshall Tory. In September of that year, 45 students and 5 faculty began classes. President Tory envisioned a secular university with a mission to educate everyone in the province; as he put it, "The uplifting of the whole people shall be its final goal." Tory's University Act made it illegal to provide any courses or programmes that were not available to women, and Decima Robinson became the university's first graduate in 1912. Till 1914, the university expanded fast, incorporating faculties of Law (1912), Medicine (1913), and Applied Science (Engineering, 1913). UAlberta is one of the biggest universities in Canada and one of the best in the world! It is one of the Top 150 universities in the world, with approximately 400 teaching and research connections in more than 50 countries. The University of Alberta is also ranked #126, #125, and #135 in the QS World University Rankings 2022, THE World University Rankings 2022, and US News & World Report Best Global University 2022, respectively.

The university has five distributed campuses with the original north campus consisting of 150 buildings. The University of Alberta has around 18 faculties that offer a wide variety of courses in academic and professional fields with a special emphasis on research. The university offers over 200 undergraduate and over 500 graduate courses. In addition to these traditional courses, it also offers various research-based and online programs.
