Saarland University was founded in November 1948 as a multilingual university combining French and German educational traditions while providing a unique European perspective. The institution, which was founded with the help of the French government and the University of Nancy, was the first to be established west of the Rhine following WWII. Saarland was in a unique condition at the time, as it was somewhat autonomous while also being linked to France by economic and monetary union. Saarland University's degree programmes are all internationally recognised. Saarland University secured the ranking of #=447 in the latest QS World University Rankings. Infrastructure, Campuses and Courses

The main university campus is only a few kilometres from Saarbrücken's city centre, in a nice forest environment. There are numerous cafés and lawns on campus that are perfect for meeting up with friends or relaxing in between classes. Saarland University's medical faculty and the Saarland University Hospital (UKS) are located on their own campus south of Homburg, Saarland's third largest city. In a forest covering more than 300 hectares, more than 100 clinic buildings are clustered together. The institution provides bachelor's and master's degree programmes in a variety of fields. Computer science research, as well as work in the life sciences and nanosciences, have earned the university an international reputation.

In France, the university is well-known for its research and education. Their partners are 550 higher education institutions from 52 countries around the world. They collaborate with 240 universities around Europe, with 41 of them in France alone. They have collaborations with 46 universities outside of Europe, ranging from Australia to the United States, as well as 10 higher education institutions in Central, Eastern, and Southeastern Europe, the Russian Federation, and the Caucasus. The university is the recipient of many international awards and honours. It has a prestigious network of thousands of alumni all across the world. Some of the notable names are Susanne Albers, German computer scientist, Peter MĂĽller, Former Minister-President of the Saarland and Michael Kohlhase, German computer scientist.

Student Diversity and Visiting Companies

Saarland University has approximately 16,700 students enrolled. There are 3,320 international students enrolled at the university, accounting for roughly 20% of all students. France, India, China, Syria, Luxembourg, Iran, Italy, and Pakistan are among the countries represented. At Saarland University, there are roughly 280 professors and junior professors among the 4.900 employees. The Career Service helps all students get started in their professional careers and offers advice throughout the process. Among the top employers of university graduates are CISPA Helmholtz Centre for Information Security, Google, EY, Siemens, Bosch, and Amazon.
