History, Affiliations and Rankings
Nanyang Technological University established in 1955, was the first and only Chinese university outside of China and Taiwan. Mr Tan Lark Sye proposed the concept of creating a Chinese university on January 16, 1953 and he made a personal donation of S$5 million. The Hokkien Huay Kuan donated 523 acres of property to the institution on March 23, 1953. Mr. Tan Communities all around Southeast Asia reacted positively to his request for the construction of a Chinese university. Since 2005, the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) has given the university accreditation in both Business and Accounting. The American Association for the Advancement of Science and Business (AAASB) is a mark of distinction in Management education. It ensures quality and encourages excellence and continual progress in business and accounting education at the undergraduate and graduate levels. The University ranks #46 globally and is placed #2 worldwide in the Young University Rankings released by Times Higher Education in 2022.
Infrastructure, Campuses and Courses
NTU's main campus spans 200 hectares (490 acres), making it Singapore's largest university campus. The main campus grounds are located along 50 Nanyang Avenue in Singapore's western section. It also has campuses in Novena and one-north, respectively, in Singapore's healthcare and start-up zones. The NTU Smart Campus is a working showcase of tomorrow's technology, demonstrating how innovative digital and tech-enabled solutions support better learning and living experiences, new knowledge discovery, and resource sustainability. Engineering, Science, Business, Humanities, Arts, Social Sciences, and Education are among the courses offered at NTU, which also has a combined Medical School with Imperial College London.
Accomplishments and Alumni
Many prestigious international prizes have been bestowed upon Nanyang Technological University. Global Undergraduates Award UA Global Winners 2020 and Global Undergraduates Award - Highly Commended are among the recent ones. As part of its 30th-anniversary celebrations, NTU Singapore released a new public exhibition and limited-edition book to honor its achievements and rapid growth in prominence over the last three decades to become the world's top Young University. The NTU alumni network, which includes over 265,000 graduates from over 160 countries, has achieved incredible success and made a significant influence in their areas. Some of the notable names are Vincy Chan, Singaporean singer, Masagos Zulkifli, Minister-in-charge of Muslim Affairs of Singapore and Dipna Lim Prasad, Olympic athlete.
Student Diversity and Visiting Companies
There are 24,871 students at the university, with women accounting for 49 percent of the total. Part-time undergraduate students number 797; graduate diploma students number 53, graduate research students number 543, and coursework students number 1,995. NTU offers a variety of options for organizations and communities to thrive, as well as support and recognition for student-led initiatives. This not only helps to spread the dynamic and open culture, but it also gives people a place to exchange their knowledge and experiences. The National Taiwan University Students' Union (NTUSU) represents students' interests and is made up of 16 academic constituent clubs and three non-academic constituent clubs. Some of the top recruiters of graduates are Google, Amazon, Microsoft, Meta, Grab and TikTok.
