History, Affiliations and Rankings
Long Island University was founded in Brooklyn by the New York State Education Department in 1926 to offer “effective and moderately priced education” to people from “all walks of life. The University has been accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE). The Long Island University has affiliations with NCAA and Div I – NEC. The Institute ranks 401st -500th in US College Rankings 2020 by Times Higher Education and #288th by the US News & World Report 2022.
Infrastructure, Campuses and Courses
Long Island University, Brooklyn’s main campus has nine academic buildings, an athletic and an entertainment centre that has the facilities like athletic fields, an adjoining parking lot, and one on-site and two off-campus accommodation buildings. LIU has four more campuses in Brentwood, Riverhead, Westchester, and Rockland countries. The accommodation includes LIU Pharmacy, the institute’s oldest building, established in 1891. Moreover, the campus provides LIU Global, which is a four-year undergraduate course that offers students the chance to live and study in eight different nations across their coursework. LIU Brooklyn also has Kumble Theater and the NCAA Division I Blackbirds. Situated in Brookville, LIU Post is the institute’s second and biggest campus. The University provides more than 500 bachelor, master’s, and PhD courses and diplomas in numerous areas of fields, ranging from accounting, theater, and film, sciences, business, communication, computer science, arts, education, health science, journalism, nursing, psychology, pharmacy, and sports.

The notable alumni are Ray Dalio, founder of Bridgewater Associates, Howard Lorber, businessman; investor; CEO of Vector Group; chairman of Nathan's Famous and Douglas Elliman, Jorge M. Perez, real estate developer, author, and political fundraiser; founder of The Related Companies and Adnan Polat, chairman of Football Club Galatasaray SK; CEO of Ege Seramik.

Long Island University values diversity in all its dimensions. Institute has more than 15,000 student enrolments out of which about 10,000 are undergraduates and 4,000 are postgraduates with more than 1400 faculty members on its premises. The Male to female ratio is 37:63 at Long Island University making it a fairly gender-balanced university.
