History, Affiliations and Rankings
Kharkiv National Medical University is the main centre for medical education in Ukraine. Established in 1805, the institute was formerly known as Kharkiv state medical university.Due to its origins in the Medical Faculty of V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University, the higher medical school in Kharkiv has a history that spans more than 200 years and is strongly related to that institution's history.Well-known medical professionals and researchers worked in clinical medicine and lectured at the university's medical faculty in the 19th century. They were the ones who conducted ovariotomies, total stomach resections, and open heart procedures and achieved important scientific advancements for the first time in the Russian Empire. The Medical Faculty's anatomical theatre was housed in a separate structure established in 1887; now, it is home to our higher school's Department of Human Anatomy. In addition, four autonomous University clinics—the therapeutic, surgical, obstetrical, and ophthalmological—were constructed in 1896.For more than two centuries, the institute has been preparing top-class medical professionals to serve the global society. The Kharkiv National Medical University has affiliations with Kharkiv City Student Hospital, Kharkiv Regional Hospital, and other affiliated hospitals and clinics. The University ranks #26 in general place and #5 among higher medical educational establishments of Ukraine in the scientometrical database SCOPUS. It ranks #47 among Ukrainian higher educational establishments by UNESCO“TOP 200 ”.
Infrastructure, Campuses and Courses
Kharkiv National Medical University provides programs in MBBS, BDS, Pharmacy, and Nursing. The University is located in the beautiful city of Kharkiv, which is the second-largest city in Ukraine and is a well-connected network with the rest of Ukraine.The university contains six dorms in addition to a complex of contemporary buildings for the teaching process. Hostels are available for all students in the graduate and post-graduate phases of their studies.There are 65 departments in the university. The departments have all the resources needed to provide students with high-quality instruction, including contemporary classrooms.The training of medical students begins in the third year in the clinics and hospitals of Kharkiv. Students have to give urgent aid to patients and conduct analyses, and x-rays and work in clinical laboratories. The university also offers students with postgraduate education in numerous faculties. The campus of Kharkiv National Medical University is assembled with modern medical equipment, practical laboratories, computer classes, and a world-class library with various study materials.
