Carnegie Mellon University is located in Pittsburgh and is a private and global research university. Carnegie Technical School was founded by Andrew Carnegie in 1900 and then came to be known as the Carnegie Institute of Technology in 1912. In 1967, it was united with Mellon Institute of Industrial Research to establish Carnegie Mellon University. It has now become an international university granting degrees at various locations including the campus at Silicon Valley and international campuses at Australia, Qatar and Africa. The university has been ranked by QS World University Rankings, THE Ranking, The Guardian Ranking, US News and Report Ranking and CWUR Rankings. Carnegie Mellon University has been accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE).

Infrastructure, Campuses and Courses

Carnegie Mellon University has seven colleges. All of these colleges offer interdisciplinary programs. Some of the renowned colleges under CMU are College of Engineering, Dietrich College of Social Science and Humanities, Mellon College of Science, College of Fine Arts, the School of Computer Science, H. John Heinz III College of Information Systems and Public Policy, and Tepper School of Business. It also has five libraries - the Hunt Library, Qatar Library, the Mellon Institute Library, the Roger Sorrells Science & Engineering Library and the Posner Center. The university provides specialised courses for undergraduate students. These are known as interdisciplinary programs - Bachelor of Humanities and Arts (BHA), Humanities Scholars Program (HSP) and Quantitative Social Science Program (QSSS). These programs provide cross-cultural training and pre-matriculation training for students. 

Accomplishments and Alumni

The Silicon Valley campus is best known for master’s programs in software management and software engineering. The university houses many art galleries including The Frame which is a fully devoted student gallery and Regina Gouger Miller Gallery which showcases the art of professional artists. Carnegie Mellon University consists of an award-winning faculty who guide students and help them find solutions for real-world problems through a diverse approach. The university is also renowned for its unique teaching styles and advanced methods. It also has a list of distinguished alumni members. Some of the notable alumni include - Ted Danson, American Actor; Zachary Quinto, American Actor and Ann Roth, American Costume Designer.

Currently, Carnegie is home to nearly 14,799 students from across 109 countries of the world. The faculty has nearly 5,000 members.Thus, catering to the academic demands of not just residential students but also international students and promoting a rich student diversity at its campus.
