Moreover, if a person is highly educated it will prevent heinous crimes. This is because students acquire a sense of purpose and direction which they may be lacking otherwise. Education increases job opportunities, which will help people improve their financial situations which are often the root cause of the increase in crime rates. In addition to this, education plays an important role in fostering critical thinking and empathy that makes people’s lives peaceful. For example, let us consider a city that has state of art science labs, libraries and sports facilities. All of these improvements will make learning more engaging, and also cater to diverse interests, helping to reduce dropout rates.
As more and more students graduate, the city’s workforce becomes more skilled, helping them attract businesses and boost the global economy. This economic growth alongside a more educated population contributes to a safer city. On the opposite side, hiring more police officers and increasing rehabilitation facilities for people are important but they are the reactive measures. They address the symptoms of the problem, not the root cause of it. Education, on the other hand, is a more proactive measure that tackles the issues contributing to crime, making it a more effective solution to all of the problems in the long run.
In conclusion, while all three measures are important to make a city safe, improving the quality of education offers a more sustainable yet holistic solution to the problem.
