The Walsh Fellowship: Duration

The Teagasc Walsh Fellowship Program grants awards for a standard duration of three to four years, specifically tailored for individuals pursuing a PhD. However, in extraordinary situations, exceptional candidates may be granted funding for a maximum period of two years to complete an MSc degree. This flexible approach acknowledges the diverse educational pathways and unique circumstances that may arise, ensuring that deserving scholars receive the necessary support to accomplish their academic goals within reasonable timeframes.

Eligibility Criteria

The students applying for the Fellowship must have :

  • First or upper-class honours primary degree or equivalent. 
  • A master’s degree may also be taken into consideration preceding the primary degree. 

Ineligibility

The application may be deemed ineligible in the following circumstances:

  • If the application is submitted after the deadline
  • Incompletion of the application
  • Exceed the word count of the application form
  • The declaration is not signed by the Vice-President/ Deen/ HOD of the academic supervisor’s institution, but signed by the lead academic and lead Teagasc supervisors.

Evaluation Process 

  • The application received for the All Walsh Fellowship program will be sent for external peer review. 
  • The applications will be assessed by a Teagasc-appointed technical evaluation panel (TEP).
  • The panel will come up with a recommended list which will be submitted to an internal Teagasc Panel. Here, the members will agree upon a final list of proposals for submission and send it to the Teagasc Authority. 
  • The Authority will approve the final list for funding.
