Study Abroad: Changes for New Ontario - OINP International Student Stream

OINP ( Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program) has modified the International Student Stream for permanent residency in order to increase eligibility for international students who have earned a graduate certificate from college for a period of one year. The new changes will be in effect from 1st January 2024. The candidates who have submitted an application before this date will be unaffected by this change.

Earlier the candidates with a one-year certificate from an approved institution could only apply through the OINPs international student stream if all the programs required completion of a degree as a prerequisite for admission. But this is no longer the case.

The new changes now apply to the OINP eligibility for any one-year graduate program granting an Ontario Graduate College Certificate.

New Changes in the OINP International Student Stream

Check below the new changes in the OINP International Student Stream:

From 1st January, 2024Before 1st January, 2024
Requirement for Program Candidates who have completed a one-year certificate from an Ontario college resulting in an Ontario College Graduate Certificate are eligible.Candidates who have completed a one-year certificate from an Ontario college were only eligible if their program required a degree for admission.
Eligibility for Program Most one-year graduate certificate programs in Ontario will be eligible.Most certificates were not eligible.

This new change will increase the number of certificate programs eligible for OINP. In addition to this, the list of eligible educational institutions for this particular stream will also be revised.
