Oxford MBA Class of 2023: A Surprising Gender Shift You Won't Believe!

For the first time in history, women have outnumbered men in the Oxford MBA program. The intake of women in the MBA course is 51% whereas that of men is 49%. Moreover, Oxford offers one of the top-tier MBA programs in the UK and it is a huge landmark for women establishing the majority in this MBA class of 2023-2024.

Oxford’s Said Business School has set an example of gender balancing to all the universities in the world. Its MBA class of 2023-2024 is the second in the list of gender-balanced classes after the class of Wharton Business School. Generally, women account for an average of 40% of enrolled students in Business Schools worldwide.

A Small Step for Man is a Giant Leap for Mankind

This might sound less influential if we fail to look at the larger picture. Women are improving their participation in graduate and postgraduate courses but still lack being promoted to senior positions. This is mostly due to a lack of specialised education and less enrolment in management-based programs.

Their numbers are sharply low in STEM-based industries. Additionally, if we look at the Fortune 500 list, we will find only 10.4% of female CEOs. The low number of females in MBA programs is also due to the high cost of pursuing an MBA. However, with grants, scholarships and student-friendly loans the scenario is slowly reshaping.

Diversity and Balance at Oxford Said

The percentage of female participation in the Oxford Said Business School has risen by 20% within the last 10 years. Moreover, this year’s MBA class has 97% international students at Oxford Said. Surprisingly, this magnitude of students is from 63 different nationalities around the world.

Universities like Oxford are already exemplary for other universities of the world. Setting a benchmark for gender-balanced classes in men-dominated fields like business is another gem in the crown. This also promotes the overall idea of inclusivity and diversity of different forms in classes.
