1. Importance of Goals

Q.1.  How do goals contribute to personal growth and development?

Ans. Goals are an important part of personal growth and development. They give a sense of direction and purpose. So whenever we set a goal, it is like we are telling ourselves, “This is what I want to achieve”. This encourages us to develop skills and abilities that we may not have explored otherwise.  It helps us push our boundaries and discover more about ourselves. Take learning a new language for example. It’s not just about memorizing words and grammar rules. It’s also about understanding a new culture, thinking in different ways, and fostering resilience as we learn to navigate obstacles despite challenges. that can help us in our growth.

Q.2. Can you give an example of a goal that has significantly impacted your life?

Ans. One goal that has significantly impacted my life was the decision to pursue my higher studies abroad. This goal was not only about obtaining a degree but was also about stepping out of my comfort zone, experiencing new cultures and living life on my own. It was challenging, involving rigorous academic preparation, securing financial resources and adapting to the new environment. However, achieving this goal was one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. I learned so much, not just academically, but also about life and myself. It made me open-minded, adaptable and resilient.

2. Long-term vs Short-term Goals

Q.1.  Can you share some of your short-term and long-term goals?

Ans. In the short term, I aim to improve my physical fitness. And for that, I have set a goal of running a 5k race under 30 minutes within the next three months. Apart from this, I have also set an academic goal of completing my master’s with an above 90% score. As far as my long-term goals are concerned, I aspire to have a successful career in the field of marketing and become a businesswoman.

Q.2. How do your short-term goals contribute to your long-term goals?

Ans. I believe that short-term goals often act as a stepping stone for long-term goals. Like I said earlier if I train for the 5K race in the short term, it will help me in maintaining a healthy lifestyle in the long run. The discipline, routine and physical fitness gained from regular training will lay the foundation for lifelong fitness habits. Similarly, achieving a high percentage in my master’s in the short term will contribute to the goal of a successful career ahead. Moreover, excelling academically can lead to opportunities such as securing a favourable placement at a multinational corporation or earning a scholarship for further studies. Thus, committing to short-term objectives and finally achieving them becomes essential for paving the way towards my long-term success and fulfilment.

3. Challenges in Achieving Goals

Q.1. What are some challenges you’ve faced while trying to achieve your goals?

Ans. I think the most common challenge that everyone including me faces is to maintain consistent motivation. For instance, sometimes while I am training for a 5k race, there are days when I feel too exhausted and unmotivated to train. Another challenge that I face in my academic goal is to balance multiple responsibilities. In the aim of having a high score, I always struggle to balance my academic workload with commitments like part-time work and extracurricular activities.

Q.2. Can you discuss a time when you overcame a significant obstacle to reach a goal?

Ans. Juggling my studies alongside a part-time job was no easy feat, mainly because finding enough time for both was a real challenge. To tackle this, I had to get creative with my schedule, setting aside specific hours for hitting the books and others for clocking in at work. Plus, I decided to revamp my study habits, diving into techniques like active recall and spaced repetition. These tweaks not only made learning more effective but also helped me remember stuff way ahead of time. It was all about finding what worked best for me and sticking to it!
