Q. Some people argue that teens no longer possess moral principles. What do you think?
Ans. In recent years, people have started to believe that today’s teenagers lack moral principles. However, I do not agree with it as I feel that while adolescents do face new and unique challenges, their moral compass is still the same.
Teens of modern times are socially more aware than previous generations. They are vocal about discussions like climate change, human rights or any topic that they feel deeply connected with. Their passions demonstrate empathy and a sense of responsibility towards the world. Compared to other youths, many teenagers nowadays are aware of digital ethics and understand the consequences of cyberbullying, misinformation, and privacy breaches, leading to more responsible behaviour online. Numerous teens also participate in activities like volunteering either through school programs or independent initiatives.
Their commitment to helping others indicates that they have strong moral foundations. From food drives to tutoring young students, they are actively contributing to their communities. Teens encourage positive behaviours in one another, leading to more ethical choices. For example, a teen encourages his friend to join the gym to remain healthy and leave fast food. Adolescents live in a complex world that goes through continuous shifts and is economically uncertain. Irrespective of this, they learn from all of their setbacks, readjust their perspectives and strive for better things which shows their resilience and that they can adapt to various circumstances. These days teens have started embracing diversity on all levels such as race, gender and sexual orientation. They challenge prejudice and discrimination, advocating for a more compassionate society. Their empathy extends beyond their immediate circles.
To conclude, one must not underestimate the moral principles of teens. Even though they face a lot of complex issues, their actions are proof of their ethical lifestyle.
