After the sudden demise of the first Prime Minister of India Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, Lal Bahadur Shastri became the second Prime Minister of India. He held the position from 1946 to 1966. He also served as the sixth Home Minister of India from 1961 to 1963.

Lal Bahadur Shastri Death

Shastriji died on 11 January 1966 in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. It was then, the USSR. He went there to resolve the India-Pakistan War. Shastriji died after signing the Tashkent Declaration with Ayub Khan the Pakistani President to dissolve the Indo-Pakistan war. According to sources, he was murdered when he was in Uzbekistan. India says that he died due to a heart attack.
