PM Narendra Modi Passes Ceremonial Gavel of G20 to Brazillian President, Lula da Silva

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday, 10th September 2023, passed the ceremonial gavel of G20 to Brazillian Presidency, Lula da Silva as a symbolic gesture. The event of the G20 Summit was held in Delhi from 8th September – 10th September 2023.

During the closing session, Modi handed over the gavel and sent his best wishes to Brazil as they prepared to take over the presidency. Brazil will officially assume leadership of this distinguished association on December 1st of this year.

India will continue to retain the G20 Presidency till November 2023. PM Modi proposed a virtual session in November to monitor progress on issues decided during the two-day G20 Summit in his closing comments.

Mode revealed: “We can review the topics decided in this Summit, in that virtual session…I hope you all will connect in the virtual session…With this, I declare the conclusion of G20 Summit.”

In his address to the audience, Lula da Silva congratulated Modi and thanked India for its commitment to spotlighting issues important to emerging economies.

“I congratulate PM Modi for efficiently leading G20 bloc and for excellent work in this summit,” Lula said.

The G20 Summit 2024 will be held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in November 2024. Lula da Silva declared that the technical groups and preparatory ministerial sessions will be held in cities throughout the country’s five regions.
