Election Commission Deploys Central Forces to Prevent Post-Poll Violence: The Election Commission of India (ECI) has deployed central forces in Andhra Pradesh and West Bengal for 15 days post-counting, based on state and central observer assessments. 2. GDP Grows by 8.2 percent in FY24, Beating Estimates. : The Indian economy grew more than expected for the year 2024-25. With an expectation of 7.2%, the GDP has grown to a robust 8.2%. Chief Economist Sujan Hajra says, “With robust growth and declining inflation, the Indian economy is poised to remain the fastest-growing economy in the world.”
3. SEBI put a fine of Rs. 2.5 crore on TIL: The Security and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) has imposed a penalty of Rs. 2.5 crore on TIL Limited (Technology, Innovation, Leadership) for indulging in fictitious purchases and sales, leading to an overstatement of revenue and sales for 2019-20 and 2020-21.
4. Supreme Court reconstitutes committee on gender sensitization: The Supreme Court reformed its Gender Sensitization and Internal Complaints Committee by exercising its powers under the Gender Sensitization and Sexual Harassment of Women at the Supreme Court of India (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Regulations, 2013.
5. Indian-origin boy, Bruhat Soma wins National Spelling Bee Title: A 12-year-old Indian American Boy, Bruhat Soma wins the National Spelling Bee Title with 29 correct words out of 30. The CEO of EW Scripps, Adam Symson, presented Soma with the trophy as he answered all the correct 29 words in just 90 seconds.
6. The application window for CBSE Board supplementary exam 2024 is open: CBSE is accepting online applications for improvement and supplemental tests for Classes 10 and 12. LOC for these classes will begin from 31 May 2024 onwards.
