UPSC administers the National Defence Academy & Naval Academy test to identify eligible candidates who have passed Class 12 for being accepted to the Navy, Army, and Air Force wings of the National Defence Academy and Indian Naval Academy courses. Every year, the test is administered twice. The NDA is an excellent choice for those who wish to apply for defence examinations after finishing grade 12. The selection procedure consists of a written test and an SSB interview. In this blog, we will discuss what NDA is, how to prepare for it, and which streams are suited after class 10th for NDA. 

What are NDA And NA Exams?

The official name of the NDA/NA test is National Defence Academy and Naval Academy Examination. The NDA/NA test is a Defence entrance exam which is highly sought for by young applicants who desire to serve their country. The NDA exam and NA test are held for admission to the Navy, Army, and Air Force wings of the NDA and the Indian Naval Academy Course -INAC. 

NDA examinations are administered by the Union Public Service Commission. It conducts NDA/NA exam twice a year, first in April and again in September. The NDA 1 test is held for admission into the January batch. The NDA 2 exam, is for the July batch. The two components of the examination are written examinations and SSB interviews.

Which Stream to Choose After the 10th? 

After graduating 10th grade, the subjects to be pursued should preferably be PCM, which stands for Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. Non-medical students can apply for all three that is the Navy, Army, and Air Force. However, if you don’t take physics and math, you will only be qualified for the Indian Army. Maths is one of the crucial subjects if you are applying for NDA, you must focus on improving your math skills. 

The NDA curriculum has been divided into two subjects: maths and GAT. The NDA Maths syllabus includes problems from Algebra, Matrices, Statistics and Probability, Calculus and Determinants, Trigonometry, Integral Calculus and Differential Equations, Vector Algebra, and Analytical Geometry of Two and Three Dimensions. English, Chemistry, Physics, Social Studies, Geography, General Science, and Current Events are all included in the NDA GAT syllabus. 

Preparation Tips 

It is advised to review past years’ question papers to get a sense of the types of questions that will be asked on the examination. The test has multiple-choice questions. We’ve included a few tips below to help you get a head start on your preparations.

  • Candidates must clear the concepts. 
  • If theories are unclear, candidates must return to the basics and answer as many questions as feasible.
  • Practice Time management 
  • Candidates should familiarise themselves with past years’ question papers.
  • Candidates must read newspapers and publications on a daily basis. 
  • Candidates are required to watch vocabulary videos. 
  • Candidates must be knowledgeable of current happenings in sports, literature, arts, and so on.
  • Read about the present economic situation, both present and past policies, and issues concerning India and its neighbours. 
  • The NDA physics coursework is extensive. Candidates must concentrate on the most significant concepts, such as Ohm’s Law, Mass, Force, and Momentum. Other topics in the curriculum should not be overlooked by candidates.
  • Important definitions and equations should be noted by candidates.
  • Read over your notes on a daily basis.
  • Make formulae and reaction charts to revise easily.
  • Complete numerous mock tests for practice.

Can non-medical students apply for NDA?

Yes, Non-medical students can apply for all three that is the Navy, Army, and Air Force.

Is physics mandatory in 11-12th to apply for NDA? 

Yes, Physics and Maths are compulsory to apply for NDA. 

Can I apply for NDA after the 10th?

No, To apply for NDA, you must pass class 12th from a recognized board.
