ESCAP full form is Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific. It is a regional commission of the United Nations. ESCAP was established in 1947. This commission is the most inclusive intergovernmental platform in the region of Asia-Pacific. The main aim of ESCAP is the encourage the growth and development of the Asia-Pacific region. ESCAP is basically a UN platform that is involved in addressing the issues related to regional developments and working towards the sustainability, social and economic progress of the Asia-Pacific region.

ESCAP Full Form: Overview

ESCAP was an initiative by the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations. The commission was formed in view of accelerating the process of investing in the economic growth of the Asia-Pacific region.

It was founded on 28 March 1947 with its headquarters in Bangkok, Thailand. Currently, 62 countries are members of the ESCAP Commission. ESCAP is one of the 5 regional commissions of the UN.

ESCAP covers a geographical area from Turkey in the west to the Pacific island nation of Kiribati in the east, and from Russian Federation in north to the New Zealand in the South. Thus, almost 2-3 of the population of the world is covered under ESCAP.
