There are some universities in the United States that do not ask international students to provide IELTS/TOEFL but on certain conditions
University of Colorado
Nigerian Students will not have to provide an IELTS score at the University of Colorado only if they meet the following mentioned requirements:
- You have completed at least two years of full-time academic study at a U.S. high school or at a high school in a country where English is the native language
California State University
You can get admission at California State University as a Nigerian Student if your native language is English and you’ve had secondary education taught in English.
University of New Orleans
IELTS or TOEFL scores are not required for international students hailing from Anguilla, Antigua and Barbuda, Australia, Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Bermuda, British Virgin Islands, Canada, Cayman Islands, Dominica, Gibraltar, Grenada, Guyana, Republic of Ireland, Jamaica, Montserrat, New Zealand, Nigeria, St. Kitts and Nevis, St. Lucia, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Trinidad & Tobago, Turks and Caicos Islands, and the UK.
Canada
The following universities in Canada do not ask for IELTS for admissions from Nigerian Students.
Brock University
If English is your first language, then Brock University does not require you to provide any English Proficiency Test Scores.
University of Winnipeg
Proof of English Language Fluency is not required at the University of Winnipeg if you’re from Nigeria.

Inholland University
The Inholland University of Applied Sciences in the Netherlands exempts international students hailing from Nigeria from taking the IELTS test to prove their English Language proficiency as countries like Nigeria are classified as English Speaking Countries. However, students from other countries like India are required to provide evidence of English Language proficiency.
United Kingdom
The following mentioned universities in the United Kingdom do have a mandatory requirement for the English Language.
University of Bolton
The University of Bolton accepts students from Nigeria if they’ve WAEC minimum grade C6 as proof of English proficiency as long as it was completed within the last 5 years. If not able to achieve this then you’ll have to provide an IELTS or TOEFL score.
London South Bank University
South Bank University accepts West African Senior School Certificates in English Language, grade C6 or above as an alternative for the English Language requirement.
Robert Gordon University
Robert Gordon University, Scotland accepts WAEC/NECO English at Grade C6 and above as an alternative for the English Language requirement.
Australia
Here are some of the universities in Australia that accept Nigerian students without IELTS.
Swinburne University of Technology
The Swinburne University of Technology Australia exempts international students to provide an IELTS score only if they have:
- English as the language of instruction during previous education.
- Completed GCE ‘O’ Level English with a minimum grade of ‘C’.
- Completed an International Baccalaureate.
- Studied English in Australia or another country.
University of Queensland
The University of Queensland in Australia does not require an IELTS score from students who have completed their senior secondary schooling from a designated country, such as Nigeria, where the medium of instruction is English.
India
Indian Universities do not ask for IELTS or any other English language tests.
