History, Affiliations and Rankings

The University of Wisconsin-Madison was the first university that was created by the state constitution in 1848 under what is now the University of Wisconsin System. Considered America's Public Ivy for its capability to provide a collegiate experience similar to that of an Ivy league, UW- Madison is a Doctoral University that focuses on research.

The University is affiliated with the University of Wisconsin System which includes 13 universities across 26 campuses. It is one of the founding members of the Association of American Universities and its sporting affiliations include NCAA Division I FBS, Big Ten and WCHA. 

QS Top Universities has ranked the University of Wisconsin-Madison at joint #75 in QS World University Rankings 2022. Aside from that, THE World University Rankings 2022 and US News & World Report Best Global Universities 2022 have ranked the University of Wisconsin-Madison at joint #58 and #52 respectively. 

Infrastructure, Campuses and Courses

The campus located in Madison is spread across 933 acres with the area increasing to 10,600 acres if the research institutes are taken into consideration. The university offers a total of 9,203 courses and approximately 232 undergraduate majors and certificates and an additional 250+ doctoral, masters and professional programs with 2000+ members of faculty. The University is organized into 20 colleges and schools in which more than 44,000 students from 50 states and 127 countries enroll annually. The University offers a dynamic and comprehensive academic program and also contributes to the economy of the State of Wisconsin by being one of the largest recruiters in the state, by employing approximately 21,600 members of staff and faculty. The university also provides a unique experience that places equal importance on co-curricular activities, it is proud to have 23 Big ten Varsity Teams and over 900 student-run organizations on campus.
