History, Affiliations and Rankings

The University of Scranton's history dates back to 1888, when Bishop William O'Hara established it as a diocesan college. It was managed by the De La Salle Brothers for 45 years after 1897, until 1942, when it became the Society of Jesus' twenty-second college in the United States. Year after year, Scranton is recognized among the top tier of universities in the nation for the outstanding quality of its education. According to U.S. News and World Report, Scranton is sixth among master's universities in the North. In national rankings, U.S. News included Scranton among America's “Best Undergraduate Business Programs, " “Best Undergraduate Engineering Programs” and among the nation's “Best Undergraduate Nursing Programs."

Infrastructure, Campuses and Courses

University Of Scranton has a great infrastructure. University of Scranton offers a number of student services, including nonremedial tutoring, women's center, placement service, day care, health service.  The University of Scranton also provides 24-hour foot and vehicle patrols, late-night transport/escort service, 24-hour emergency telephones, lighted pathways/sidewalks, student patrols, and controlled dormitory access as part of its campus safety and security services. At the University of Scranton, 20% of students have cars on campus. Students of legal age are permitted to consume alcohol at the University of Scranton.The university grants undergraduate degrees like Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science in 65 majors. The university also allows graduate degrees in 29 fields, ranging from Accounting and Chemistry to Software Engineering and Theology

Accomplishments and Alumni 

Scranton provides 23 NCAA Division III (non-scholarship) sporting programmes, 11 for men and 12 for women, with the addition of indoor and outdoor men's and women's track and field. In 22 of the 23 sports that it offers, the University is a part of the Landmark Conference. Independently competing is the wrestling team. Additionally, more than 1,600 students participate in intramurals and recreational sports, including leagues, competitions, and weekend special events. Some of the notable alumni are Susan Campbell Bartoletti - an American children's writer; Joseph Battisto - an American politician member of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives; and Richard J. Beamish-  the Pennsylvania Secretary of the Commonwealth and Commissioner.

Student Diversity and Visiting Companies

Students at University of Scranton are mostly White with a small Hispanic population. The school has very low racial diversity. Many reputed companies come to this university for placement. Some of the companies are Aramark, Comcast, Communications Construction Group.
