History, Affiliations, and Rankings
The University was founded in 1871 as Normal School No. 2 and became known as Warrensburg Teachers College. The name was changed to Central Missouri State Teachers College in 1919, Central Missouri State College in 1945, and Central Missouri State University in 1972. In 1965, the institution established a graduate school. In 2006, the name was changed to the University of Central Missouri. It has been affiliated with the Great Lakes Valley association, Colleges and Universities in Missouri, Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association, and Association of American Universities.
Infrastructure, Campuses, and Courses
The University of Central Missouri is located in Warrensburg, Missouri. The size of the campus is more than 1,500 acres with all the amenities available for faculty and the students. The university has 5 colleges namely College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences, Harmon College of Business and Professional Studies, College of Education, College of Health, Science, and Technology, and The Honors College offering courses and majors in a plethora of courses.
Accomplishments and Alumni
Since its establishment 151 years ago, University of Central Missouri has had a long road of history and accomplishments. UCM is the state leader in degree completion among public universities. Statistics recently released by the Missouri Department of Higher Education (MDHE) show that UCM’s degree completion rate per full-time equivalent (FTE) is the highest among all of Missouri’s public universities and more than double the state benchmark. Many notable alumni like James Kirkpatrick (served as 32nd Missouri secretary of state), Lawrence Walkup (president of Northern Arizona University), Thomas Kunz (researcher notable for insights into bat ecology) have graduated through the University of Central Missouri.
Student Diversity and Visiting Companies
Over 5.5% of the Student Body of University of Central Missouri comprises International Students. More than 1,000 students from over 120 countries attend the University every year. It is from a total of more than 11,000 students. The Career Service Center of University of Central Missouri offers many resources to the students and alumni for connecting with potential employers and creating a better CV and a resume. The University hosts many career fairs for students to interact with employers.
