The University of Arizona was established in 1885 and is the first research university in the Arizona Territory in the USA. The university was founded in 1885 by an act of the territorial legislature as a land-grant college, making it the first university in Arizona. In 1891, the university opened its doors, and by 1915, it had three colleges, of Letters, Arts and Sciences; Mining and Engineering and Agriculture. The University of Arizona is a Public Ivy school. and is also affiliated with the Association of American Universities, the Universities Research Association and National Space Grant College and Fellowship Program. The university is classified among "R1: Doctoral Universities – Very High Research Activity".

The University of Arizona is one of three universities that are under the governance of the Arizona Board of Regents. As per QS World University Rankings 2023, Arizona is ranked #262 globally, while according to Times Higher Education World University Rankings, the university is placed at #150. It ranks #99 as per U.S. News Best Global Universities Rankings, and according to the Center for World University Rankings 2022, UArizona is placed among the top 0.5% of the universities worldwide 

Infrastructure, Campuses and Courses 

The campus is roughly divided into 4 quadrants. The north and south sides of campus are delineated by a grassy breadth called the Mall, which stretches from Old Main eastward to the campus' eastern border at Campbell Avenue. The west and east sides of campus are separated by Highland Avenue and the Student Union Memorial Centre. The university offers undergraduate and Postgraduate programs in various disciplines. The infrastructure of the university is generally characterized by the use of red bricks, particularly in facades. 

The university is home to 7 libraries and 9 museums including Biosphere 2 and Arizona State Museum. There are a total of 20 separate academic colleges or schools including the University of Arizona College of Medicine, James E. Rogers College of Law and affiliated medical centres namely University Medical Center Phoenix and University Medical Center Tucson. The University offers more than 300 undergraduate majors and graduate programs, doctoral and professional degrees and is recognized worldwide for its academic courses in Archaeology, Philosophy, Anthropology, Mining Engineering and Earth and Marine Sciences, amongst other subjects. UArizona is known for its research work in the field of Space Science and has been awarded more NASA grants than any other university in the United States.

Accomplishments and Alumni 

The University of Arizona is known for men’s basketball, baseball and softball with the official colours of its athletic teams being cardinal red and navy blue. UArizona is also one of the elected members of the Association of American Universities. As a public research university catering to the diverse citizens of Arizona and beyond, the mission of the University of Arizona is to provide a comprehensive, high-quality education that engages the students in discovery through research and broad-based scholarship. The UA has been named one of the top colleges in the nation by The Princeton Review. The University of Arizona scored an A in the list of Best Value Law Schools by the National Jurist magazine. The annual list identifies law schools where graduates have the best chance of passing the bar and landing a job in the legal field. 

The Banner – University Medical Center in Tucson is a research and teaching hospital at the UArizona campus. In partnership with Banner Health, medical students and residents receive instruction from nearly 1,500 faculty members and academic physicians who are at the forefront of medical innovation. The University of Arizona leads NASA’s OSIRIS-Rex mission, and helped build the James Webb Space Telescope
