History, Affiliations, and Rankings

The Calgary Veterans Training School opened in 1916 with eleven students and a mandate to train return veterans from the First World War. We have served the community in various ways through the years, such as a hospital during the Spanish Flu pandemic and a Royal Canadian Air Force Wireless Training School during the Second World War. Today, SAIT is shaping the next generation of innovators, entrepreneurs, and pioneers by providing action-based learning, solution-based research, and industry partnerships. AACTI, CBIE, CUP, and Polytechnics Canada have academic affiliations with the university. Each year, the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology manages to enter the top 50 universities in Canada, making it one of the most respected educational institutions in Canada.

Infrastructure, Campuses, and Courses

There is a great deal of infrastructure at the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology. Students can find anything and everything they need there. The campus is adequately secure thanks to the measures SAIT has taken. Students, staff, and visitors are all protected by a safe and secure environment. Aside from these features, students have access to a coffee house, Jugo Juice, bar, fitness centre, gymnasium, squash courts, bowling alley, hockey arena, theatre, and saltwater pool on campus. There is a student union, a library, a bookstore, and a restaurant in the Stan Grad Centre, a central building on campus. The Stan Grad Centre also houses the university's food service outlets, classrooms, and study areas. As a member of the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference since 1964, SAIT belongs to SAIT.  On the northeast corner of the main campus, there are two high-rise buildings and many residences. Study rooms, fully furnished units, high-speed internet, kitchenettes, and 24-hour security will be available to residents.

Accomplishments and Alumni

Among the famous alumni of SAIT, some of the notable alumni are Robert Alford (politician), Ken Allred (politician), Evan Berger (politician), and Kaella Carr (television news person), among others.

Student Diversity and Visiting Companies

Equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) provides the conditions for a healthy campus where everyone feels welcomed, supported, included, valued, and empowered to succeed. EDI is essential to achieving SAIT’s vision to be a global leader in applied education, and to our mission: to prepare students for successful careers and lives.
