History, Affiliations and Rankings

The Royal Academy of Music (RAM) in London, England, is the oldest conservatoire in the UK, With the support and ideas of French harpist and composer Nicolas Bochsa, the Royal Academy of Music was created in 1822 by John Fane, 11th Earl of Westmorland. In 1830, King George IV bestowed the academy with a royal charter. Arthur Wellesley, 1st Duke of Wellington, was a major contributor to the academy's foundation. Its affiliation is with ABRSM King's College London. The institution was in danger of closing in 1866, which contributed to the establishment of the Royal College of Music in nearby South Kensington. When William Sterndale Bennett, the academy's freshly appointed principal and a former student, assumed the role of board chairman and placed the school's finances and reputation on solid ground, the academy's history changed for the better. According to the QS World University Rankings, the Royal College of Music in London is the seventh-best performing arts university in the UK and Europe (2022)

Infrastructure, Campuses and Courses

The Royal Academy of Music has a beautiful facility on Marylebone Road in London. Recital halls that are state-of-the-art, five new percussion studios, and remodelled practice and dressing facilities are also available at the university. This academy also provides a number of facilities like a Theatre for opera, an Audio-visual control room, Practice studios in our custom-built suite, Dedicated professional recording services and The Academy Museum, which hosts regular research events and includes on-site instrument workshops. The majority of academy students are classical musicians who study the violin, piano, harp, accordion, guitar, brass, woodwind, conducting, and opera. Jazz, musical theatre, and historical performance all have their own divisions. Royal Academy of Music has bachelor’s and master’s degree programs offered across a variety of musical disciplines. 

Accomplishments and Alumni 

The 2022 QS World University Rankings have been announced, with the Royal College of Music in London ranking #1 in the world and the top institution for performing arts in both the UK and Europe. Some of the alumni are Louis Demetrius Alvanis (pianist), William Alwyn (composer), Simon Andrews (composer), Irvine Arditti (founder of the Arditti Quartet) and Gary Arbuthnot (flute).

University invites the industry's biggest stars to display their students' talent on a variety of projects, which often culminate in a public performance. The school connects with other conservatories across the world, taking part in the SOCRATES programme for staff and student exchange.
