Colgate University is one of the oldest universities in the Northeast USA, located in the state of New York. It was founded in 1819 as a private liberal arts college. Originally known as the Baptist Education Society of the State of New York, Madison University existed from 1846 to 1890, when it changed its name to honor the Colgate family's contributions to the university. Colgate, the toothpaste firm, was created by William Colgate, one of the institution's initial trustees. Colgate University is affiliated with space-grant colleges. And in terms of sporting affiliations then Colgate University is affiliated with NCAA (National Collegiate Athletic Association) Division I, FCS (NCAA Division I Football Championship Subdivision), Patriot League, ECAC (Eastern College Athletic Conference) Hockey, MAISA (Middle Atlantic Intercollegiate Sailing Association). Colgate University has ranked #17 in National Liberal Arts Colleges in the Best Colleges 2022 edition. As per Times Higher Education US Colleges Rankings 2022, Colgate University ranked #52.

Infrastructure, Campuses and Courses

The university is 575 acres in size and is located in Hamilton, New York. There are 88 buildings and 2300 trees on the university campus. The institution also has a number of buildings, including Lathrop Hall and the Robert H.N. Ho Science Center. Clifford Gallery, Linsley Geology Museum, and Picker Art Gallery are among the many museums and galleries in the city. Brehmer Theater, Memorial Chapel, Golden Auditorium, and Love Auditorium are among the university's theatres and auditoriums. Trudy Fitness Center, Lineberry Natatorium, gym, shooting range, glending boathouse, cross country course, and golf course are just a few of the leisure options. The college, which is located in Hamilton and is in a rural setting, provides on-campus housing as well as organic food. Colgate University features a healthy and ecologically friendly dining service that provides students with a choice of food alternatives. The institution provides 56 major undergraduate majors and only one graduate degree. It is primarily an undergraduate college that offers only one master's degree in education, MAT (Master of Arts in Teaching).

Colgate University is also placed 40th among national liberal arts universities in the Washington Monthly rankings 2021. The institution is ranked 48th in Forbes America's Top Colleges List 2021. Students from all around the world attend this 200-year-old university. There are more than 34,000 alumni of Colgate University and a few of the notable alumni are Adam Clayton Powell Jr. (New York congressman and civil rights leader), Charles Evans Hughes (Chief Justice of U.S. Supreme Court), Adonal Foyle (Former NBA player), Andy Rooney (commentator, and columnist), Gloria Borger (journalist and columnist), Bruce Buck (the chairman of Chelsea Football Club), Chase Carey (the chairman of Formula One) and Bob Woodruff (foreign correspondent).
