History, Affiliations and Rankings
The institution was initially established in 1899 at Thailand's Grand Palace as a school for teaching royal pages and government employees during the reign of King Chulalongkorn. The oldest higher education facility in Thailand was later founded as a national university in 1917. Its affiliation is with ASAIHL, AUN, APRU, Washington University in St. Louis and McDonnell International Scholars Academy.
Chulalongkorn University was placed #245 in the world, #45 in Asia, #1 in Thailand, and 3201–250 in the world graduate employability ranking by the QS WUR 2017. Chulalongkorn University is ranked the #1 in Thailand and is placed #224 in the world by the QS WUR 2023. The university has been ranked #! for 14the consecutive year since 2009 by the QS WUR. Other prestigious organizations such as Times Higher Education Impact Rankings 2021 also ranked the university #1 in Asia, and #23 in the world, with an overall sustainability performance of 92.4.
Infrastructure, Campuses and Courses
In the Pathum Wan District of Bangkok's downtown, the campus of Chulalongkorn University spans 252 acres. It makes up little over half of the university's total 456 acres of land; the remainder is either commercially developed or is used by other organizations. Chulalongkorn University consists of 20 faculties, 23 colleges, and many institutes which function as teaching and research units. The university offers a range of courses starting from Psychology and Arts to Dentistry and Medicine. Apart from this, Chulalongkorn University also offers 90+ international programs, including Bachelor, Master and Doctoral programs.
Accomplishments and Alumni
Chulalongkorn University consistently receives top rankings for student quality, research quality, subject-specific quality, university reputation, and environmental management systems in surveys of Thailand's universities. Some of the alumni are Urassaya Sperbund - Thai Actress, Sirivannavari Nariratana - Thai princess, Chantavit Dhanasevi - Actor, and Aff Taksaorn - Thai actor.
Student Diversity and Visiting Companies
Chulalongkorn University is committed to playing its part in raising awareness of gender equality and cultural diversity. Currently, there are more than 37,000 students, including over 26,000 undergraduates, 10,656 postgraduates, and more than 700 certificate program students.
The university has also been ranked #141-150 for Graduate Employability by the QS WUR Employability Rankings of 2023. Graduates from Chulalongkorn University are employed at some of the top companies such as SCG, Shopee, KASIKORNBANK, SCB- Siam Commercial Bank, Accenture, Deloitte and Unilever.
