These questions require you to understand the  meaning of something not directly stated.

Making Inferences questions are typically phrased as follows:

  • What does the professor imply about X?
  • What will the student probably do next?
  • What can be inferred about X?
  • What does the professor imply when he says this? 

Tips to Remember

  • Put together the details of the conversation or lecture to come to a conclusion.
  • The speaker in most cases implies something without directly stating it.
  • In most cases correct answer will not use the vocabulary found in lecture or conversation
