Some UK universities have stopped accepting PTE Online Scores for admissions in 2024 while others have withdrawn offers already sent out the prospective candidates. Universities have taken this decision after raising issues with discrepancies in PTE test scores where some students have applied with full or very high marks on the test.
London Metropolitan University, Cardiff University, Nottingham Trent University, University of Exeter, University of Edinburgh, University of Southampton and the University of Sussex are the first few universities to introduce this change.
With ongoing problems encountered in the PTE online tests, it is expected that more universities might stop accepting PTE Online test scores. To get admission to these universities through PTE Academic scores, you will need to submit offline or paper-based test PTE Academic test scores.
London Metropolitan University and Cardiff University have already displayed an official notification regarding the discontinuation of PTE Academic Online Test Results. This change is applied to admissions from the January 2024 intake. Nottingham Trent Univerisity, the University of Exeter and others have also declined PTE Online test results and will soon update them in their entry requirements.
Why are PTE Online Scores Discontinued?
As reported by PIE News, Pearson revealed test violations while reviewing some assessments taken by students online. Earlier, many universities had raised suspicions about the students applying with full or very high marks in the PTE Academic Online Exam which led to the review.
Pearson immediately started withdrawing such assessment results and cancelling scores that were already declared. Universities are withdrawing applications from students whose English proficiency test results have been revoked by Pearson. However, in-person or offline tests are unaffected and are considered for admission without any obstacles.
What Should the Students Do?
Rather than checking whether your target university falls within this list or not, it is better to go for an in-person test or other tests like IELTS or TOEFL for securing admission whatsoever. More universities might follow the same protocol and stop accepting PTE Academic Online Scores, therefore it is better to avoid the risk.
If you have already gone for the test, or your PTE Online test results are rejected by your university, you can vouch for some time and sit for the in-person test. Contact the university authorities or seek guidance from study abroad experts for the same.
