Here is the response of the minister on why 24 hours per week instead of 30 hours will come into effect in the fall of 2024.

This event aimed at clarifying the government’s stance on whether the temporary policy allowing some international students to work off campus for more than 20 hours per week will be extended or not. This temporary policy was introduced because of the COVID pandemic to ensure that businesses in Canada can fulfill the labour shortage and give an option to international students to earn more. In the future, the IRCC will increase students’ off-campus employment hours to 30 hours per week. Generally, international students can work for 20 hours per week while class is in session.
