Existing Schemes between India and the EU meet our Requirements no New Schemes are needed says Brendan Ward, the ambassador of Ireland in an Interview.

Indian and Ireland are not considering a migration and mobility partnership says Ireland Ambassador Brendan Ward. He added that every year 6000 to 7000 Indian students travel to Ireland to study. After their graduation, many students who work in big international companies are doing so well. The company will arrange a work permit and longer-term residence in Ireland.

Ward says we have a visa scheme for highly skilled workers. These also include nurses, other healthcare professionals, chefs and hotel workers. Further, every year 4000-5000 Indians travel to Ireland. Ireland’s Ambassador said that the existing schemes between India and the EU meet our requirements. So there is no need for a Migration and Mobility partnership between India and Ireland.

Partnerships Between India and the EU

India and EU countries have collaborated to better organise migration and mobility between the citizens of these countries. The Common Agenda for Migration and Mobility(CAMM) was signed by the two sides in 2016 as a framework for cooperation. The program CAMM is advanced through high-level dialogue on migration and mobility.  Additionally, the scheme has 4 priority areas to strengthen the cause.

Priority 1: Better organizing and promoting regular migration at relevant skill levels and fostering well-managed mobility, including the enhanced issuance of visas

Priority 2: Preventing and combating irregular migration and addressing trafficking of human beings.

Priority 3: Maximizing the development impact of migration and mobility, including through cooperation on social security issues between India and EU MS.

Priority 4: Promoting international protection, in line with the respective obligations of the Signatories.

Moreover, the European Council adopted a Global Approach to Migration and Mobility (GAMM) to intensify the previous efforts on building a comprehensive immigration policy. The council included an array of policy areas, and building dialogues and partnerships with third countries based on mutual interests.
