Study Abroad: Canada Simplifies IELTS Requirements for Study Permit Applicants, Focuses on Overall Band Score

As per, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), IELTS test takers are not required to achieve minimum scores as per guidelines. Student Direct Stream (SDS) programme will now require only an overall 6 band score. The reform will be effective from 10 August. 

Students applying through SDS can now solely focus on individual band scores. It is a pathway for students willing to study in Canada. The visa offers faster processing time for students.

International English Language Testing System (IELTS) is an exam conducted to evaluate the English speaking, listening, writing and reading efficiency of students who are willing to study abroad.

Views of Experts on the SDS Program 

Experts say it will be easier for students to take the SDS programme. IELTS has the biggest network of test centres. Students will have the option of paper-based tests in more than 150 venues across over 80 cities in India.
