PTE Speaking and Writing Section Syllabus
As the name indicates, the speaking and writing section of the PTE exam are combined and go together. The Speaking & Writing segment of the PTE exam lasts around 54 – 67 minutes and covers several distinct question types. The Speaking and Writing component of the PTE test is also the longest section of the paper.

Personal Introduction
It is pertinent to mention here that the section for personal introduction is a chance for the candidate to get familiar with the technology of the exam and this section does not contribute to the candidate’s scores.
Candidates will get 25 seconds to prepare after which they must record their personal information in 30 seconds. Candidates can only record the answer.
Read Aloud
During the course of this section, a text will be provided to the candidates and they will have 30-40 seconds to read the text and prepare. Once the time is over, candidates would have to read the text aloud.
Repeat Sentences
Candidates would be required to listen to the audio after which they would need to repeat the sentences. The audio will be 3-9 seconds and candidates will have 15 seconds to answer.
Describe Image
Candidates will see a picture which they would have to then describe in detail. Candidates will get 25 seconds to study the image and prepare their responses.
Lecture Retelling
In the lecture retelling section of the exam, candidates will, after watching or listening to a lecture, re-tell the lecture in their own words. The prompt will be up to 90 seconds after which the candidate will have 10 seconds to prepare before commencing their answer.
Answer Short Question
In this section, candidates will listen to a question after which they will need to submit their answers. The length of the prompt will be 3-9 seconds after which the candidates must submit their answers.
Summarise Written Text
Candidates will be provided with a text in this section. Once they have gone through the text, candidates will need to write a one-sentence summary of the passage. The length of the text will be up to 300 words and the candidate would have 10 minutes to answer.
Writing an Essay
For this section, candidates will be given a topic on which they would need to write a 200-300 word essay. Candidates will have a total of 20 minutes to write the essay.
