How GRE Exam is Conducted?

The GRE or the Graduate Record Examination is undertaken by students who want to enrol on a graduate school abroad. The GRE exam is usually conducted in English-speaking countries. The examination is conducted by the Educational Testing Services (ETS). The GRE examination consists of online analytical writing, quantitative reasoning, and verbal reasoning. Candidates can take this examination online and offline. GRE Exam Eligibility

GRE General Test Registration Process

The GRE subject test and general examinations can be conducted anywhere. Want to know how the GRE exam is conducted? The examination generally has 3 modes of the registration process. These are as follows:

Test Sections and Timing

How GRE exam is conducted? The examination is conducted for a duration of 3 hours and 45 minutes. It covers 6 sections that have 10-minute breaks. This is followed by the 3rd section. Generally, the analytical writing portion comes first. It is followed by  Verbal Reasoning, Quantitative Reasoning and unidentified/unscored sections. Each section counts for the score.

Section-level Adaptation

The first section of each measure is of average difficulty. Moreover, the Verbal Reasoning section and the quantitative reasoning section are section-level adaptive. That is the difficulty level of the 2nd section will depend on the 1st section’s overall performance. 

For example, those who perform well on the 1st Quantitative section will get the second section of the quantitative section of higher difficulty. The overall scoring og the verbal reasoning and quantitative reasoning takes into account the difficulty level and the number of questions answered correctly.

Test Design Features

How GRE exam is conducted? The GRE examination test design makes sure that a candidate moves forward and backward easily on an entire section. The main features of the GRE test are as follows:

• Options to mark and review questions. That is, a student can skip it and later return to it if there is time remaining to complete it
• The ability to edit and change answers within a section
• For the quantitative section, an on-screen calculator is provided to the student

GRE Subject Test

GRE Exam Center

The GRE examination centres in India are under the discretion of the ETS. How is the GRE exam conducted? Generally, the GRE examination can be taken by students either at a test centre or at their home. The GRE examination test centres are available in every city. Interested students can book their slots at the centre of their choice on the basis of their convenience. However, the students must check the test centre if it is functioning or not on the ETS website.
