What is AWIB Scholarship?

The AWIB scholarship is provided to women of Asia or Pacific Island origin who are permanent residents or citizens of the USA. With the main aim of helping Asian women entrepreneurs, the non-profit and tax-exempt Asian Women In Business (AWIB) was established in 1995. In order to help bright Asian American women pursue their dreams without any financial obstacles, the AWIB scholarship fund was established in 2006. It is awarded annually to the students who have shown the ability to take up leadership positions in the future. The funds for the AWIB scholarship are generated through corporate or individual donors. As per IRS Section 501 (c) (3), donations for the AWIB scholarship fund will be exempt from the tax. 

Award Details for AWIB Scholarship

The AWIB scholarship is awarded to students for undergraduate programs at universities in the USA. Each applicant selected for this scholarship will be awarded an amount of USD 2500. In addition to this, applicants can also be given an additional USD 2500 (total USD 5,000), i.e. if the candidate belongs to the low-income group. The extra amount will only be awarded if the candidate is able to prove the financial need by submitting a copy of the most recent FAFSA form. The amount awarded under the AWIB scholarship should only be used to pay education and tuition fee-related expenses by the candidate.

Application Process for AWIB Scholarship

To apply for the AWIB scholarship, students need to fill out the application form that will be available at https://www.awib.org. Students are advised to fill out the application form carefully in order to avoid any mistakes. Candidates need to fill out the text-enabled PDF application form, as AWIB does not accept handwritten application forms. Eligibility Criteria for AWIB Scholarship

In order to be eligible for the AWIB scholarship, candidates must be female of Asia or Pacific Island origin ( which includes countries – Vietnam, Thailand, Taiwan, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Philippines, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Indonesia, Japan, Cambodia, Korea, China, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Mongolia, Nepal, and  Singapore). Candidates also need to meet the following prerequisites in order to be eligible for the AWIB scholarship:

  1. The candidate must be a US citizen or a permanent resident of the USA.
  2. Applicant should have been previously either in a leadership position for community work or should have previous entrepreneurial experience.
  3. Should be enrolled in a full-time 4-year UG program in one of the USA universities at the time of the application.
  4. The AWIB scholarship is meant for students who are already enrolled in college. Also, the candidate should have completed at least 1 semester at the college.
  5. The applicant must have a minimum of a 3.0 GPA (out of 4.0).
  6. The shortlisted candidates also need to provide an official transcript of marks. 

Selection Procedure for AWIB Scholarship

When the candidates are shortlisted, the information provided by them is also verified by the authorities. The references provided by the applicants should not be from family members or friends. Good LORs are from employers, supervisors or college professors. Also, the candidate should refrain from providing any incorrect information, as doing this may lead to disqualification. 

After verification, AWIB may also take interviews with the selected candidates. The result of the AWIB scholarship will be available on the official website of AWIB.
