Why Do We Celebrate Police Commemoration Day?
On 21st October 1959, 10 soldiers of the CRPF were brutally killed by the Chinese PLA troops. This incident took place in the hot springs of the Ladakh region, which China claimed was theirs and the Indian soldiers had entered their territory without any permission. This Akshai-Chin area is located at an altitude of 16,000 ft. above sea level.
When New Delhi got news about this incident, it decided to pass a resolution at the Annual Conference of Inspectors Generals of Police of States and Union Territories, which declared 21st October as Police Commemoration Day or National Martyrs Day. Since then, the Government of India and other Police Departments of each state and union territory annually observe this national event.
